NEW UPDATE On Board Election

New Update: May 26

2020 Board of Education Election - Candidate Update

The District has been notified that Amanda White has withdrawn her candidacy for a Board of Education Trustee seat.

Pursuant to Education Law § 2018(d), the deadline for the filing of the nominating petition for the office of member of the Board of Education has been extended to Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. By order of the Governor of New York State, this year’s annual meeting and election is to be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 by absentee ballot. Accordingly, Executive Order 202.26 provides that every eligible voter in the District be sent an absentee ballot with a postage paid return envelope.

The District is in the process of printing and mailing out absentee ballots to all eligible voters within the District. In order for voters to receive and mail back the ballots by June 9, 2020 at 5:00 pm, the District will mail out the original ballot, which includes Amanda White as a Board of Education candidate. Additionally, if a nominating petition is received by 5:00 pm on June 2, 2020, the District will provide notice on its website that such candidate has been so nominated and individuals wishing to vote for said candidate must do so by writing his or her name on the ballot in the blank space provided for write-in candidates.

NOTICE - Previous from May 18

Pursuant to Education Law § 2018(d), the deadline for the filing of the nominating petition for the office of member of the Board of Education has been extended to Friday, May 29, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. By order of the Governor of New York State, this year’s annual meeting and election is to be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 by absentee ballot. Accordingly, Executive Order 202.26 provides that every eligible voter in the District be sent an absentee ballot with a postage paid return envelope.

In order to allow sufficient time for the District to create, print and mail out the absentee ballots to all eligible voters within the District, and for such voters to receive and mail back the ballots by June 9, 2020 at 5:00 p.m., the District requests nominating petitions be filed no later than May 20, 2020. The District cannot guarantee that the name of any candidate nominated by a nominating petition filed after May 20, 2020 will appear on the absentee ballot. In the event the candidate’s name is unable to be printed on the ballot, a vote for the candidate would be completed via the write-in process. The District will provide notice on its website that such candidate has been so nominated and individuals wishing to vote for said candidate must do so by writing his or her name on the ballot in the blank space provided for write-in candidates.

Sycamore Song

Enjoy this beautiful and heartwarming virtually arranged song performed by the Sycamore Avenue Elementary School community.

According to music teacher Rachel White, "About 150 children and teachers learned the song through my tutorial and then recorded themselves (sometimes with a parent or big sister or brother helping). I then took these recordings and mixed them together to create our Sycamore voice. You will hear the students in solos, in grade-level groupings in dialogue with the voices of teachers and then all voices combined with a drum ensemble.

This was a labor of love, but it is something that I have always believed is the heart of music. It brings us together in the best and worst times. It helps us create and sustain community. At this time when we struggle with how to connect, I am so proud to show how music can bring us together in meaningful ways."
