Connetquot’s Idle Hour Elementary School celebrated an important educational milestone in the lives of this year’s fifth grade class with a moving up ceremony on June 25.

Held at Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School, the event earmarked the end of the 36 graduates’ elementary school years and the beginning of their journey through middle school. During the ceremony, each student was introduced and presented with a certificate representing the successful completion of their elementary school requirements, along with special awards.

In addition to the proud family members and educators in attendance, John Allen, the district’s assistant to the superintendent, and Suffolk County Legislator William J. Lindsay III took part in the program and congratulated the new middle school students.

Fifth grade students from Idle Hour Elementary School recently welcomed family members, teachers and fellow students to the school’s 2019 musical performance, “At the Bandstand – A Rock ’n’ Roll Review.”

This fantastic trip down memory lane, produced and choreographed by music teacher Kelly Daugherty, took the audience through an hour of nostalgic music, dance, hairstyles and clothing of the 1950s and 1960s.

The students sang and danced to such classics as “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “Johnny Angel,” “Splish Splash” and the ever-popular “Rockin’ Robin” while sporting poodle skirts and leather jackets.

Daugherty thanked her talented students, the helpful teachers and administrators, and the parents who assisted with the costumes and dance routines, for an outstanding production. Idle Hour Principal Sandra Rubin also congratulated the performers on a job well-done.

First grade students enrolled in Keri Farrell’s class at Idle Hour Elementary School recently put on a stunning performance of the play, “Bugz,” for attending family members and kindergarten students alike. Under direction of music teacher Kelly Daugherty and Mrs. Farrell, the students spent months rehearsing their lines and perfecting their choreography before putting on the big performance for all to see. The play featured a beautiful set design, eye-popping costumes and a number of songs which showcased both the students’ vocal abilities and humorous nature. Prior to the big premiere, the students visited The Arbors Assisted Living Facility at Bohemia to treat their “Grandfriends” to a special performance of the show.
